The Swedish Trade & Invest Council together with the “Sweden+Taiwan Green Transition Alliance” members Baseload Power Taiwan, Scania Taiwan, Volvo Group Taiwan/Taikoo and Altas Copco Taiwan visited the Deputy Minister Tsai of Environment Protection Administration on April 8th to discuss how Taiwan and Sweden can work together for green transition and the common net zero goal in the future.

The Swedish Representative Bengt G Carlsson said that: Sweden was among the first countries in the world to implement carbon tax in 1991 and Sweden today has the highest carbon tax in the world with USD 137 per ton of carbon emissions. The implementation of carbon taxes didn’t impede Sweden’s economic growth and since 1990, emissions in Sweden have decreased by 29 per cent while GDP has increased by 84 percent. The Swedish experience has shown that green growth is not a cost to the economy – it is an opportunity to drive growth and innovation.

Deputy Minister Tsai commented that he is impressed by the high carbon tax in Sweden and look forward to more experience sharing and collaboration with Sweden on the relevant topics in the future.
