Sweden+Taiwan Green Transition Alliance visits Taiwan Cement Company to understand how a heavy industry-focused company transformed into a sustainable and innovative enterprise

The Swedish Trade and Invest Council, along with Sweden+Taiwan Green Transition Alliance members Assa Abloy, Atlas Copco, Baseload Power, Scania, and Volvo Group, visited Nelson Chang – the chairman of Taiwan Cement Company (TCC) – on February 6, 2023. TCC, which has a long history in Taiwan, is not only deeply engaged in the cement industry but has also been actively developing business in renewable energy and energy storage technology in recent years. Owing to its diversified operation, TCC is no longer a passive company that ‘mainly meets the needs’ but a provider that actively seeks out solutions.

Regarding electric vehicles, Chairman Chang shared the demands and discussed the trends related to using electric trucks in the mining industry with Volvo Group and Scania. In terms of energy efficiency, Assa Abloy showed that they can provide solutions that are more energy efficient than traditional energy-consuming magnetic locks. Atlas Copco detailed how air compressors and blowers can contribute to green manufacturing.

In terms of geothermal power development, Baseload Power and TCC are both committed to develop Taiwan’s geothermal power potential. We look forward to seeing more exchanges between Swedish companies and Taiwan for geothermal development collaboration.

Furthermore, during the meeting, Chairman Chang outlined TCC’s green initiatives and international expansion plans. He explained how TCC gradually transformed from a traditional heavy industry-focused company to an enterprise that prioritises sustainability and environmental considerations. The Sweden+Taiwan Green Transition Alliance wish to continuously exchange cutting-edge technologies and experiences with Taiwanese companies and partners to drive the industrial green transition together.
